The XFL cities and teams

The New York Guardians

The XFL recently announced their inaugural season with a list of 8 cities who will each host a team for the 2020 season. In the following days we’ll take a look at each team and the city they will call home, starting with the New York Guardians.

  • Name: New York Guardians
  • Stadium: MetLife Stadium, New Jersey
  • Head Coach: Kevin Gilbride
  • Colours: Black, Silver & Red
  • Motto: On duty
The Guardians will play in a base black uniform to reflect the gargoyles that adorn the New York skyline, keeping a watchful eye over the cities inhabitants.

The Guardians have chosen a Black, Grey & Red colour scheme to reflect the architecture of the big apple, pulling inspiration from the Gargoyles that can be found on many of New Yorks buildings. The Grey detailing reflects one of New York’s favourite building materials, concrete and Red adds an air of menace and fear, sure to catch the eye on gameday.

Kevin Gilbride has been chosen as the man to lead the Guardians, and he is no stranger to sport in the big apple, leading the NFL’s NY Giants to two SuperBowl victories as offensive coordinator and also coaching with the Buffalo Bills. Gilbride retired from coaching in 2014, so taking over a new franchise should be an exciting challenge, but has the game passed him by in his six year hiatus?

The Guardians seem to be in a good spot, the worlds largest sports market that is hungry for more professional Football, a coach that is used to the New York media market and, in my personal opinion, the best Uniforms in the league.
